A star for
We name a real star from the European Space Agency's Hipparcos catalogue, or draw the exact sky over a night that matters, and make it into a gift you can hold. Type a name to see it in Orion.
The sky behind this page is real: every point is a star from the Hipparcos catalogue around Orion, drawn where it sits.
Name a star
A real star from the Hipparcos catalogue, named for someone and recorded in our register. Choose how they'll keep it.
The night we met
The sky exactly as it was above the place you met, at the hour it happened, worked out from real star positions.
Special events
The sky over a birth, a wedding, an anniversary or a life remembered. Each comes as a print or a light-up night sky.
How it works
You choose
Pick the gift, then the constellation or the place, and the date that matters. Add your own words.
We make it
The moment you pay, we reserve the star or calculate the sky, then make your certificate, print or engraving within 2 working days.
They find it
The QR code on every named star opens its own page, and our free sky viewer points a phone straight at it.
The honest bit
Plenty of star sites blur this. We'd rather you knew exactly what you're buying.
- Is it a real star?
- Yes. Every star we name is a real star from the Hipparcos catalogue compiled by the European Space Agency. Its coordinates, brightness and Hipparcos number are printed on the certificate, so anyone can find it in a stargazing app or through a telescope.
- Is the name official?
- No, and no company can sell an official star name. Official names are given only by the International Astronomical Union. Your name is recorded in the Your Star Above register, and we will never name that star again. It's a keepsake, and we say so on every certificate.
- Can I see the star?
- Standard stars are mostly too faint to see without binoculars, though a small telescope or good binoculars will show them. Choose the bright star option if you want one that can be seen with the naked eye from somewhere dark.
- Can I choose the exact star?
- You choose the constellation. We then pick a star in it that has never been named in our register. Every star is only ever named once.
